Emu Standing and Chicks on Round Base - Metal Art
Emu Standing and Chicks on Round Base - Metal Art
Only found in Australia, Emu are the worlds second tallest birds, after the Ostrich. Emus feature prominently in Aboriginal stories and culture. They’re the inspiration behind dances, the subject of astrological mythology and other creation stories. Emu's do parenting a little differently - after the female emu helps prepare the nest, and then lays 5-15 eggs - she wanders off and leaves the male to it ! He incubates the eggs for 55 days and during this time he doesn’t eat, drink or defecate, and rarely leaves the nest, losing up to 8kg in the process. After they hatch the male raises the chicks until they leave, around 6 months to a year and a half.
This proud daddy emu and his chicks will look simply delightful at any property or garden. A rural setting would also be a perfect place for an emu family.
